A Full-Length Championship Course

Set on stunning natural seaside turf, the Valley is a full-length championship course that proudly hosts one of the two qualifying rounds for the North of Ireland Open Championship each year.

Winding through the sheltered landscape of the War Hollow, this evocative setting is believed to have been the site of an ancient battle between the Chieftains of The Route and Magnus Barefoot, King of Norway, around the year 1102.

The natural hazards of the course present a stern test for low-handicap golfers, and accuracy is needed in approach shots to the small, cleverly sited greens.

It was here that Graeme McDowell, Portrush’s Ryder Cup hero, U.S. Open Champion, and European Tour winner, honed the skills that would carry him to the world stage. Today, the Valley continues to earn acclaim, consistently ranked among the top 40 golf courses in Ireland.

Course Guide

Par 4 Index 7/7

349 339 332

Pro Tip

The first hole is named after former Lady President Zara Bolton. Zara Bolton is 349 yards long, with a drive that must be accurately placed over a ridge to reach a small valley leading to the green, which lies low and is surrounded by sand hills.

Par 4 Index 3/13

385 374 292

Pro Tip

This is a dog-leg to the left from the tee. A hook or pull is severely punished but a drive to the right opens up the sloping green for the approach shot.

Pro Tip

From the elevated tee position the green presents an ideal short iron to a small target with a deep bunker left.

Par 5 Index 11/3

534 520 510

Pro Tip

The tee shot is played over a ridge into the War Hollow, which stretches for over 300 yards. The green sits below a high hill, atop which lies the tee box for the famous “Calamity Corner” on the Dunluce course. If you make a par here, be satisfied.
