The Open Championship

Following the success of The Open in 2019, the R&A announced that the 153rd Open Championship will return to Royal Portrush in 2025. The swift return of such a prestigious event to the Club, just six years later, speaks to the lasting impact of that championship.

Hosting The Open in 2025 will offer the world another chance to witness the Dunluce Links in all its glory, as the world's best golfers take on the challenges posed by this magnificent course.

PREVIOUS WINNER

2019

Irishman Shane Lowry was crowned Champion Golfer with a four round total of 269. He mastered the challenging conditions of the Dunluce Links to win the Championship by six shots.

Local Hero

1947

Portrush native Fred Daly became the first Irish golfer to win a Major, securing victory in the Open Championship at Hoylake. A week later, at Royal Portrush, Daly was defeated by Harry Bradshaw in the Irish Open. The North of Ireland Amateur Championship, to be held annually at Royal Portrush, was inaugurated.

£126 MILLION

Economic Boost

The event is estimated to have generated over £26 million for the Causeway Coast & Glens area and more than £106 million for the Northern Ireland economy.

Visitors from around the world gathered to witness the world’s best golfers, with a vibrant festival atmosphere permeating the week. In addition to the thrilling competition, visitors were welcomed by the warmth and hospitality of the local community.

Natural Beauty

Images of the beautiful Dunluce Links were broadcast to audiences around the world.

Viewers were also treated to stunning vistas of the Causeway Coast & Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching 30km along the north coast and encompassing iconic attractions such as the Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge.
